Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma in English Literature. Mitchell started her career as a journalist with KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. She was a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington the following year, she was appointed general correspondent for NBC News a year later. Since 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was appointed the top of the congressional reporters. She was named the chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief of the Foreign Affairs department at NBC News. Mitchell participated on the TV program Meet the Press and also host of the show. Mitchell was part of the panel during the 1988 presidential debates which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for her outstanding performance in the field of journalism. In 2004, it was the year that Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her efforts to protect First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of the terms of President Ronald Reagan. She covered many notable stories like arms control, fiscal tax reforms, and the Iran Contra scandal. She also traveled to various summits while in the company of President Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev.
